Hosted Xen Project

By March 6, 2009March 4th, 2019Announcements

Xen Community:
At last week’s Xen Summit at Oracle, Ian Pratt announced a new project that is currently in active development, Hosted Xen.  This project will enable the Xen engine to run as a kernel module enabling Xen to become a Type-2 Virtual Machine Manager sitting “on top” of the existing operating system. This ported version of Xen is similar to other Type-2 VMM such as KVM, VirtualBox, Parallels, etc.  The current development focus is Windows and Mac OSX and with both solutions currently running in testing labs.
The port of the Xen engine leverages all of the existing development, optimization, and features currently available on Xen while also allowing users to operate the Xen hypervisor as a Type-2 VMM. There is strong interest in this project and Christian Limpach is working hard to release the properly working source code for the community. The code will be submitted into the main xen-unstable tree and a preview should be available by mid March. If you have any development questions, please send them to xen-devel.
