It’s that time of year when open source community gathers for FOSDEM! FOSDEM is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas, and collaborate. This year’s event will take place virtually, making it more accessible than ever. It will take place Feb 6 and 7. The Xen Project will be present in several ways, through both Unikraft and XCP-ng.
What is FOSDEM
According to the FOSDEM site, “FOSDEM is a free and non-commercial event organised by the community for the community.” The event aims to help developers get in touch with other developers and projects while helping folks become generally more aware of open source projects and community goings-on.
This year, two of the Xen Project sub-projects will be at FOSDEM, making it a great opportunity for folks to learn more and get involved.
Unikraft
Unikraft is a project focused on easing the creation of building unikernels, which compile source code into a lean operating system that only includes the functionality required by the application logic.
This year, Unikraft will be participating at FOSDEM in a variety of ways.
- Unikraft Stand: https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/event/unikraft_welcome/
- Talk: Is the Time Ripe for Unikernels to Become Mainstream with Unikraft?
- Talk: Severely Debloating Cloud Images with Unikraft
XCP-ng
XCP-ng, who joined as a Xen Project incubation project in January 2020, is a virtualization platform that aims to be the bridge between the users community and the developers and is the default entry point for any user.
XCP-ng will have a stand at FOSDEM. Check it out here: https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/event/xcpng_welcome/
Have a great FOSDEM everyone!
